Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/ On November 28, Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh worked at ‘Makh market’ and ‘Makh impex’ companies, as a representation of producers of meat and meat products.

According to the livestock census of 2016, it reached 61.5 million heads of livestock; 27.8 million heads of sheep, 25.5 million goats, 3.6 million horses, 4.0 million cows and 400 thousand camels. For domestic use, around 10-12 million heads of livestock and meat are consumed annually. In addition, Mongolia has potential to export about 9 million heads of livestock and meat.

“As of November, 2017, Mongolia exported 21.5 thousand tons of meat to Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Japan, Iran and Qatar. It means that the meat export increased by five-fold, as compared with export volumes over the past five years. Providing domestic needs thoroughly, but also increasing the export is one of the Government's priorities,” said PM.

The companies introduced the PM about their plans to enlarge factories and productions, modernize equipment and increase jobs. For instance, ‘Makh Market’ company’s authority said that the number of jobs would be doubled if the company makes technical modernization and builds extension. The PM assigned the Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry to pay attention on supporting their technical modernization and extension by involving the meat factories in the investment and production support loans.

“We have learned that Mongolia must not rely upon mining only. Therefore, we need  to develop a multi-pillar economy, having a pair of pillars at first. Now, it is necessary to increase livestock and augment meat export intensively. A role of producers is very important to fulfill this purpose. The Government will support and collaborate with national producers,” pointed out the PM.
