Minister of Health holds meeting with USAID Mission Director to Philippines

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. On May 12, Minister of Health S.Enkhbold received U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director to the Philippines Ryan Washburn and other representatives of the agency.
At the start of the meeting, the Health Minister expressed gratitude to the USAID Mission Director for arriving in Mongolia to become acquainted with the current state of the country’s healthcare sector and holding a meeting to define priority areas for future cooperation.
Highlighting the large-scale projects previously implemented by the US Government on strengthening the healthcare sector, he noted how the country made a valuable contribution to Mongolia’s supply of highly necessary medical equipment, medicine, diagnostic tools, and PPE by providing support and assistance amounting to USD 8.5 million for the fight against the pandemic.
The Minister then expressed gratitude on behalf of the Government of Mongolia as well as personally for donating over 1 million doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine through COVAX, and highlighted that the vaccines were widely used as the third shot of COVID-19 vaccine in Mongolia.
In turn, USAID Mission Director to the Philippines Ryan Washburn thanked Minister S.Enkhbold for making the time to hold a meeting, and congratulated the Government of Mongolia, the Ministry of Health, and the country’s healthcare workers for successfully fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic and overcoming with minimal loss.
Noting the plans to become acquainted with the healthcare sector’s operations and its current state by visiting primary healthcare facilities and specialized healthcare centers in the framework of the visit, he informed the Minister about the decision to provide additional financing through UNICEF for promotional works.
In 2020, the US Government, through USAID, provided finances of USD 1.2 million to the World Health Organization and UNICEF to support the Government of Mongolia’s COVID-19 response.
During the meeting, Mr. Ryan Washburn also presented some of the medical tools and supplies being provided as support for healthcare facilities in Mongolia in the fight against the pandemic through UNICEF.
