Ulaanbaatar, February 13, 2025 /MONTSAME/. On the occasion of the 113th anniversary of Niislel Khuree, the Department of Culture and Arts of Ulaanbaatar City, in collaboration with the Ulaanbaatar City Museum and the Mongol Art Gallery, has inaugurated an Exhibition titled "Mongol Paintings Depicting Bogdiin Khuree" at the Mongol Art Gallery on February 7, 2025.

113 years ago, on the 20th day of the last winter month, or February 7 in the solar calendar, by the decree of Bogd Khaan, Ikh Khuree was officially named Niislel Khuree and declared the Capital City of Mongolia.

For the first time, this exhibition brings together nearly 30 Mongol paintings depicting Bogdiin Khuree, sourced from collections of the Ulaanbaatar City Museum, Mongol Art Gallery, Bogd Khaan Palace Museum, Fine Arts Zanabazar Museum, National Archives of Mongolia, National Library of Mongolia, as well as international institutions such as the Museum der Kulturen Basel (MKB) in Switzerland, along with private collectors and archival repositories.

The primary objective of the Exhibition is to showcase how Bogdiin Khuree was depicted in Mongol paintings, illustrating its urban structure, organization, historical events, celebrations, and state ceremonies from the 18th to the early 20th century. Through these works, the exhibition aims at educating the public on the historical importance and artistic value of these paintings.

The Exhibition is divided into three main sections: Mongol paintings depicting Bogdiin Khuree, photographs showcasing the city itself, and documentary screenings in the video hall. Notably, for the first time, the original "Ikh Khuree City" painting, created by the court artist of Bogd Khaan’s Palace in the 1870s, will be publicly displayed for a one-week period.

Additionally, a reproduction of this intricate and historically rich Mongol painting has been meticulously recreated over four years by artist Oyun-Erdene Tsedenpil from the Mongol Art Gallery. Over the past three years, she has worked alongside G. Ochbayar, a researcher at the Ulaanbaatar City Museum, conducting historical and artistic studies on the piece.

The Opening Ceremony of the Exhibition was attended by, E. Tsend-Ayush, Head of the Department of Culture and Arts of Ulaanbaatar City, Jonang Kanchen Gegeen Gavj Gunsenchoijidagva, Vice Khamba of Zuun Khuree Dashichoilin Monastery, G.
