Ulaanbaatar, February 25, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The Construction and Demolition Waste Recycling Plant at the Moringiin Davaa Dump Site, located in Khan-Uul district of Ulaanbaatar City, is capable of recycling up to 100 tons of waste daily.  The Plant has procured 29 types of machinery and equipment that are indispensable to the operation, including a landfill compactor, demolition excavator, bulldozer, wheel loader, water truck, and dump truck. The eco-friendly waste landfill facility meets hygiene requirements and has a capacity of receiving 8.5 tons of waste.  The Plant was constructed by the order of the Governor’s Office of the Capital City as part of the “Ulaanbaatar Solid Waste Modernization” Project with financing from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and a grant aid from the European Union. It has a new landfill facility that meets hygiene requirements, a construction waste crushing and sorting facility, a garage for machinery and equipment, and an office building.

Ulaanbaatar’s three centralized landfills collect an average of 1.4 million tons of waste annually, of which 11.4 percent is recycled, and 88.6 percent is buried. Construction waste accounts for 20-30 percent of the total waste collected. During his visit to the Plant, General Manager of Ulaanbaatar City and Head of the Ulaanbaatar City Council G. Batzorig highlighted, “The Project is important for processing solid waste into gravel and crushed stone, putting them into an economic circulation, reducing the number of landfill sites and CO2 emissions, conserving water and energy, and creating sustainable jobs.”
