Mongolia and UNCCD to Actively Cooperate in COP17 Organization

Ulaanbaatar, October 6, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Minister of Foreign
Affairs Battsetseg Batmunkh had a phone call with Executive Secretary of the
United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) Yasmine Fouad on
October 2, 2025.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Executive Secretary noted
that preparation for the 17th Session of the Conference
of the Parties (COP17) to the UNCCD that will take place in Mongolia from
August 17 to 28, 2026, is going well, both expressing the commitment to cooperate
to enrich the agenda and program and to organize the high-level event
successfully.
Furthermore, the two sides emphasized that COP17, to be
held in Mongolia, will play an important role in advancing global discussions
on drought and protecting the interests of herders.
Yasmine Fouad, former Minister of Environment of the Arab
Republic of Egypt, is recognized internationally as an expert in environmental
diplomacy and has held the position of Executive Secretary of the United
Nations Convention to Combat Desertification since August 2025.
