Mongolia Inaugurates International Year of Quantum Science and Technology
SocietyUlaanbaatar, February 5, 2025 /MONTSAME/ The “International Year of Quantum Science and Technology-2025” Conference took place in the Grand Hall of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences.
The United Nations designated 2025 as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology to promote scientific and technological achievements among young people and educate the public. Quantum Science is considered pivotal as the economy, industry, and all sectors in general cannot develop further without quantum technology.
"The physical law of quantum mechanics is related to all branches of science. Laser technology, semiconductor electronics, and microelectronics, the basis of computers as we know them, are considered the first quantum revolution, as well as quantum computing, quantum informatics, quantum imaging, and quantum sensing are all recognized key examples of the second quantum revolution. These basic concepts have entered our lives and have already become commonplace. They will be used more and more in our lives in the future. However, it is not yet perfect, there are limitations. Its future development will be carried out by the next generations," noted Academician Davaasambuu Jav, Director of the Institute of Physics and Technology of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences.
"We must impart scientific knowledge to enlighten the public. Therefore, we plan to organize 12 activities throughout the year. Quantum chemistry, quantum biology, and quantum informatics will be discussed within the framework of quantum technology. Students of Secondary School No. 14 of Ulaanbaatar are conducting 12 experiments today,"
Mongolia successfully hosted the Asian Physics Olympiad in 2023, in which 27 countries participated. As part of the Olympiad, works for improving physics education in classrooms were carried out in 21 aimags. As an outcome of it, the number of students to study physics has increased, including 51 students at the National University of Mongolia, and a number of students at the Mongolian National University of Education and the Mongolian University of Science and Technology. As scientists and scholars recognized the necessity of promotion and publicity to convey correct and systematic information to the public, the “International Year of Quantum Science and Technology-2025” Conference was organized.
