Ulaanbaatar, April 25, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Under the "White Gold" National Movement initiated by the President of Mongolia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia held a meeting to exchange views on cooperation with international organizations on April 24, 2025.

At the meeting, Economic Advisor to the President of Mongolia Davaadalai Batsuuri presented the vision, organizational structure, and operational priorities of the “White Gold” National Movement. Mr. Davaadalai remarked, “In June 2024, the State Great Khural adopted the 63rd Resolution on ‘Certain Measures to Support the Processing Industry of Animal-Origin Raw Materials.’ Within the scope of this Resolution, we are working to develop new legal frameworks for the Agricultural and Light Industry, develop and improve raw material quality and procurement systems, increase exports and expand the market, and train skilled human resources and capacity.

Currently, the mining products comprise around 90 percent of the total exports of Mongolia, however, agriculture creates the most jobs and is still the most contributing sector to rural development. Therefore, the 'White Gold' National Movement is being implemented to develop non-mining industries and create a rainbow economy. Under the National Movement, there are possibilities for close collaboration with Embassies and international organizations, cooperate on legal reform, increase the export volume, and build human resources and capacity. Moreover, it would be much more beneficial if the stakeholders ensure the development of a climate-resilient agriculture and sustainable development, and cooperate under the 'White Gold' National Movement.”

UNDP Resident Representative in Mongolia Matilda Dimovska noted, “The ‘White Gold’ National Movement, initiated by the President of Mongolia, is the optimal initiative designed to reform agriculture in Mongolia. The UNDP is collaborating with the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry of Mongolia and has developed a platform to support the implementation of this National Movement. This collaborative platform comprises stakeholders, including the State, the Government, herder cooperatives, the private sector, and international partners. During the meeting, we observed a crucial presentation, which gave us the understanding that supporting the value-added manufacturing of cashmere, wool, and hide products is necessary. We will cooperate in this regard.”

The “White Gold” National Movement, initiated by the President of Mongolia, aims at enhancing the value of livestock-derived raw materials. The successful implementation of the Movement will increase the production and export of internationally competitive, high-value-added products with traceable origins and quality certifications. As a result, the value of livestock-derived raw materials will rise, improving herders’ incomes and livelihoods while elevating the agricultural and light industry sectors to a new level.
