Ulaanbaatar Railways celebrates its 70th anniversary

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ This year marks 70th anniversary of Mongolian-Russian joint venture “Ulaanbaatar Railways”. On the occasion of the anniversary, the Ulaanbaatar Railways organized several events, including an anniversary conference and mini-Naadam festival. During the conference took place on August 2, Minister of Road and Transport Development and Parliament member B.Enkh-Amgalan highlighted “Mongolian railway embarked on its development when the steel railroad between Ulaanbaatar-Naushki was put into operation in 1949 after a historic agreement was made on 6 June 1949 to establish Ulaanbaatar Railways JSC. 


Following him, Chairman of the Ulaanbaatar Railways B.Jigjidnyamaa addressed the event by noting about the accomplishments of the company. He said “The Ulaanbaatar Railways is celebrating its 70th anniversary with a great achievement. Last year, the Ulaanbaatar Railways transported a total of 25.8 million tons of freight, breaking its own record and as of July 2019, around 15 million 280 thousand tons of freight have been carried. Transit freight transportation of Mongolia has been increasing and the number of transit freight trains ran through the territory of Mongolia has reached 773. In particular, we are about to exceed last year’s performance in the next several days already ”.

Moreover, he said that the contribution of the Ulaanbaatar Railways in the development of Mongolia has been growing. For example, the Ulaanbaatar Railways has finished building of the railway of a new refinery under construction in Altanshiree soum of Dornogobi aimag. “The competency of the Ulaanbaatar railway and its employees, engineers and railroaders is proven by their successful participation in the government's project of railway construction Zuunbayan-Tavantolgoi” he added. President of Mongolia Kh.Battulga also sent a congratulatory message for the event, which was also attended by Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Mongolia I.K.Azizov and First Deputy Chairman of Ulaanbaatar Railways I.V.Milostnikh.
