SEC suggests to extend heightened state of readiness till September 15

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. At its meeting held today, August 25, the State Emergency Commission (SEC) issued a proposal to the government to extend the heightened state of readiness for disaster protection amid COVID-19 pandemic until September 15. The ongoing heightened state of readiness, as decided by the government last month, is set to expire on August 31. 


The cabinet ministers are expected to discuss the proposal made by the SEC at its irregular meeting to be convened today afternoon. 


As a measure to prevent from COVID-19 outbreak, Mongolia started gradually closing its borders to all passengers, including Mongolian nationals, and all school and universities in the country have been shut down since January 2020. However, all levels of schools and universities are scheduled to reopen for combined online and offline classes starting September 1, under strict guidelines. 


As of August 25, the total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Mongolia is at 298 and 289 patients or 96.9 percent of them have already recovered. No local transmission of the virus has been detected.
