President Elbegdorj meets EU Ambassadors

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The leader of Mongolia Tuesday convened Ambassadors and Concurrent Non-Resident Ambassadors of the European Union’s (EU) members to Mongolia, and said this meeting is important for the Mongolia-EU relations.

Mentioning that Mongolia has been developing the ties with the EU since the two sides established the diplomatic relations 25 years ago, the President emphasized that Mongolia considers the EU as its one of the Third Neighbors.

Mr Elbegdorj noted Mongolia celebrated this year the 25th anniversary of the first democratic elections and thanked the EU and its members for supporting the Mongolian democracy. He said Mongolia is thankful to the EU also for collaborating in ensuring a preparation for the 11th ASEM Summit to be held in 2016 in Ulaanbaatar.

Then, the President talked about an establishment of the partnership and cooperation agreement between Mongolia and the EU, pointing out that 17 countries have ratified this agreement so far.

In turn, the EU Ambassadors expressed their views and positions. They highly spoke speeches delivered by the President at the European Parliament and at the 21st UN Climate Change Conference held in Paris. They are confident that Mongolia will successfully host the 11th ASEM Summit in Ulaanbaatar.

Mr Elbegdorj also informed them that Mongolian parliament adopted the new Criminal law and the law on permanent status of neutrality. Parliament is currently discussing a matter on whether to run a national referendum on amending the Constitution and a draft amendment to the election law.
