Embroiderers Gather to Safeguard the Traditional Heritage

Ulaanbaatar, November 16, 2023 /MONTSAME. The First National Embroiderers Conference will be held on November 17, 2023, at the State Palace. The exhibition Wonders of Art of Embroidery-4, a prelude to the Conference, opened on November 15 at the National Museum of Mongolia.
Over
1,000 artworks crafted by some 150 embroiderers from 21 aimags, 33 soums, and districts
that submitted for the
National Embroidery Competition are displayed to the public free of charge for two days. Among the competition
participants, the oldest
embroiderer is 80, and the youngest is 15. Most of the embroiderers are from rural
areas, including groups of artisans from remote Khovd, Zavkhan, and Umnogobi aimags.
The first National
Embroidery Competition was held in Darkhan-Uul aimag in 2005, the second at the
G. Zanabazar Museum of Fine Arts in 2010, and the third at the National Art
Gallery of Mongolia in 2018. In the three previous competitions, an average of 300
embroiderers participated, but this time, due to the capacity of the hall, more
than 150 embroiderers' artworks were received.
The National Embroidery Association of Mongolia announced that the winners of the National Embroidery Competition will be invited to participate in domestic and international art and culture festivals, exhibitions, and competitions.
Head of the
Association S. Gantsetseg noted "This year, the National Embroidery
Competition is organized within the framework of the Month of Cultural
Creativity. A total of four winners in seven categories will be selected
and awarded during the First
National Embroiderers Conference."
The elegance, bright color, and technique of Mongolian embroidery can be seen in the artworks displayed at the exhibition.
