Ulaanbaatar, March 6, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The “Eagle Festival,” one of the fascinating features of Mongolian winter tourism, will be celebrated for the 19th time at Chinggisiin Khuree Tourist Complex on the outskirts of Ulaanbaatar City on March 8-9, 2025.
The Eagle Festival aims at reviving the eagle hunting customs and traditions of the Mongols, inheriting the intangible cultural heritage of hunting with eagles for future generations, and promoting them to domestic and foreign tourists.
During the Festival, visitors can experience unique traditions and lifestyles up close through a parade of eagle hunters, Kazakh folk performances, traditional costume and accessory markets, and authentic cuisine.
The remarkable tradition of domesticating and using birds of prey for hunting is known as "Falconry” and originated six thousand years ago among the nomads of Central Asia. Therefore, the Mongolian eagle hunting practice was inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2010.
