Mongolia Reaffirms Global Health Commitment at the 78th World Health Assembly

Ulaanbaatar, May 30, 2025 /MONTSAME/. A Mongolian delegation led by Gerelmaa Davaasuren, Permanent Representative of Mongolia to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia to the Swiss Confederation, participated in the 78th World Health Assembly (WHA78), held in Geneva, the Swiss Confederation, under the theme “One World for Health” on May 19-27, 2025.
The video greetings of President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa were delivered at the Opening Ceremony of the WHA78. The Head of State of Mongolia highlighted the significance of adopting the Pandemic Agreement, initiated by the World Health Organization (WHO), drawing on the lessons learned from the global COVID-19 pandemic, and underlined the importance of each member state’s participation in further strengthening WHO’s position and expanding its scope of activities in an era of enhanced role of multilateral cooperation.
At the General Debate of the WHA78 on May 19, 2025, Ambassador Gerelmaa Davaasuren presented the active policy frameworks and prospective actions of the Government of Mongolia in the health sector. Moreover, the Permanent Representative delivered a statement at the high-level pledging event at the WHA78 aimed at securing funding for the WHO’s Investment Round. Ms. Gerelmaa Davaasuren held a bilateral meeting with Dr Saia Ma'u Piukala, WHO Regional Director for the Western Pacific, to discuss further cooperation in the health sector, particularly regarding the quality and safety of medicines.
During the 78th World Health Assembly, member states of the World Health Organization approved policy documents aimed at strengthening the international health system, achieving universal health coverage, and mitigating the health impacts of pressing challenges, such as climate change, air pollution, and armed conflicts. A key milestone of the Assembly was the adoption of the Pandemic Agreement, marking the culmination of over three years of intensive negotiations among member states.
