Ulaanbaatar, August 28, 2025 /MONTSAME/. During its regular session on August 27, 2025, the Government decided to conduct a unified national census and monitoring of the issuance, ownership, and locations of mineral exploitation licenses.

A Working Group was established by Prime Minister Zandanshatar Gombojav’s decree to review the payment status of resource usage fees by holders of mineral exploitation licenses, issue conclusions, and develop proposals for further actions. The Working Group will be chaired by Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Damdinyam Gongor. As of today, a total of 2,741 licenses issued by the state administrative body responsible for geology and mining are valid in Mongolia, including 1,768 exploitation licenses and 973 exploration licenses.

To ensure the efficient use of mineral exploitation licenses and strengthen resource management through sound state policy, a need has arisen to conduct oversight and evaluation of license issuance, as well as to organize a unified national registry of license ownership and locations.
