On the sidelines of the conference, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia and OPANAL signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to institutionalize bilateral cooperation in the field of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation. The MoU establishes a framework for technical collaboration, policy dialogue, and capacity-building initiatives. The Treaty of Tlatelolco, signed in 1967, designates Latin America and the Caribbean as the world’s first nuclear-weapon-free zone. Today, 33 states from the region are party to the treaty, which comprehensively prohibits the development, acquisition, testing, deployment, and transfer of nuclear weapons, reinforcing regional peace and contributing to global non-proliferation efforts.
