Ulaanbaatar, December 18, 2024 /MONTSAME/. A Working Group in charge of registering held the third discussion to register the burial complexes of Hunnu aristocrats in the UNESCO World Heritage List at the conference hall of the Chinggis Khaan National Museum of Mongolia on December 11, 2024.

At the meeting, members of the Working Group reviewed and provided suggestions for necessary revisions based on recommendations from the World Heritage Centre. A documentary film was screened, and the nomination project's team presented their completed work. Members gave feedback and recommendations for improvements. Following the World Heritage Centre's recommendations, the required revisions will be submitted by January 2025 for further evaluation. This will open the opportunity for inclusion in the World Heritage List by 2026.

The Working Group submitted their materials to UNESCO Secretaries on September 30, 2024, demonstrating the exceptional universal value of the Hunnu aristocrats' burial complexes from multiple perspectives, aiming for registration on the World Heritage List.

The Hunnu Empire was the first organized state of nomadic herders, flourishing on the steppes of Central Asia and considered the ancestors of the Mongols. According to the Chinggis Khaan National Museum of Mongolia, over 30 significant archaeological sites have been discovered in Mongolia, including remnants of cities, noble residences, burial complexes, and thousands of burial sites. The findings also include around 20 rock art sites and over 10 production sites. These artifacts provide a glimpse into the history of the Hunnu aristocracy.
