Reform on law becoming humanistic highly praised by Fawzia Koofi

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ S.Byambatsogt, Acting Minister of Justice and Home Affairs, received Wednesday a delegation headed by Fawzia Koofi from the Human Rights Committee at the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
 
S.Bayartsogt thanked the delegation for visiting Mongolia and said the Mongolian Government and Parliament attach the great importance to human rights protection. He pointed out that the sixth report on implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights in Mongolia was successfully discussed at the 120th session of the United Nations Commission On Human Rights on July 6-7, 2017.

During the meeting, the IPU delegation highly spoke reforms of the human rights law and taking measures for implementing the International Covenant. 
 
The Minister noted that the Mongolian Parliament adopted the package law on criminal submitted by the Ministry of Justice and Home Affairs. By the law, the policy on jailing criminals has become more flexible, and the maximum period of jail sentence has been reduced, he said.   
 
The IPU delegation expressed the satisfaction with reforming the criminal law, making it more humane and its approach towards protection of human rights.
