Unauthorized garages, fences to be demolished in Ulaanbaatar
Ulaanbaatar
Capital City Training, Research, And Public Relations Agency
Last year, a decision was made by the capital city authorities
to demolish buildings, structures, and garages that have unauthorized use of
land with an aim to create a more comfortable environment for the citizens. The
works are now underway to scale up the scope of the work such as demolishing
unauthorized garages and fences.
Governor of the Capital City and Mayor
of Ulaanbaatar D.Sumiyabazar: We are seeking the right solution to address
these issues
-Unauthorized fences and garages were demolished and the land
was vacated last year. When do you plan to start this work this year?
-During the socialist era or before 1990, hardly anyone had
private property. However, since the 1990s, the city authorities of that time started
giving authorization to the people to build their own garages. Today, we are
focusing on how to fix it, rather than judging whether the decision was right
or wrong. We need the policy to correct the mistakes of the last 30 years, as
well as better solutions.
About a thousand garages have been demolished in the past year. In the demolished areas, green spaces were created. The citizens want to improve the city's appearance, enhance spatial planning, and create a safe and healthy environment where residents can move in and out freely. This work will continue this year. Fences will also be removed. Authorities of nine districts have been instructed to demolish 4,800 garages at 188 locations in Ulaanbaatar. The demolition of 4,800 garages will likely change the appearance of the city. This year, the work to increase green spaces in the city will begin on March 15, while the construction is planned to begin on April 1. In particular, spatial planning is planned in the center of Ulaanbaatar, Baga Toiruu, and Ikh Toiruu, to provide access for special purpose vehicles, and to plan children's playgrounds and other areas in detail. Small areas should be demolished and cleaned immediately. Districts and other relevant organizations have taken on the task of creating a green and safe environment. In Ulaanbaatar, the year 2022 has been declared the year of citizens. The city should be citizen-friendly, and provide jobs and income.
G.Batzorig: Not only the land will be vacated but also landscaping and green spaces will be created
In 2021, 1,556 unlicensed garages, portable facilities,
extensions, fences, barriers, and poles in public roads and squares in
Ulaanbaatar were vacated, and landscaping was completed at 43 locations. We had
the Head of the Land Administration Department of the Capital City G.Batzorig
elaborate on this.
What is the progress of demolition works this year?
-This year, we are working to demolish 4,860 unauthorized garages
and eliminate violations. Land acquisition will begin on March 15, 2022. First,
the demolition of garages around kindergartens and schools will begin.
What is the public attitude towards this work?
-People actively supported the demolition. No buildings will be
built in the vacated area. Negotiations are underway with citizens in certain
locations.
What are the notable opinions and suggestions of the citizens on
structures to be built in vacated lands?
-We are getting feedback from the citizens after demolitions.
This is a step-by-step process. There is a shortage of green space and
children's playgrounds in the capital city.
What constructions were made in the areas vacated last year?
-Last year, about 1,500 objects and violations were eliminated.
A total of 37,000 m2 of land was vacated and green spaces and playgrounds were
built in four locations.
