Ulaanbaatar, October 9, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The international scientific conference “90 Years of Mongolian Photography” was held at the Chinggis Khaan National Museum on October 8, 2025.
A total of 23 presenters participated in the conference, including six foreign doctors and scholars. The event aimed to study and analyze the development of photography from a scientific perspective, train researchers, and further expand cooperation in the study and promotion of Mongolian photography domestically and internationally.
Secretary-General of the United
Association of Mongolian Photographers Batbaatar Tserendorj said,
“Today marks the 90th anniversary of the establishment of the Mongolian
Photographers’ Association. Next year will mark the 200th anniversary of world photography.
Based on current research, Mongolia ranks among the leading countries in terms
of photographic development. The first photograph in Mongolia was taken in 1845.
Meaning Mongolia has a 180-year history of photography. Mongolian photographers
have been systematically developing photography during the Socialist
construction era. Nowadays, young artists are studying independently and
improving their skills in countries such as the People's Republic of China,
Japan, and the United States of America. Photography courses are now taught in the
journalism department at universities. Mongolian State University of Arts and
Culture has a specialized photography program. Recently, artificial
intelligence has emerged in the field of photography. However, a true
photograph is a living work of art captured by human hands. Therefore, we focus
on preserving and developing the traditional value of photography.”
The Mongolian Photographers’ Association currently has 300 members. The youngest member is 18 years old, while the oldest is 90.
