Unified Association of Honorary Consuls of Mongolia in Japan to Be Established

Ulaanbaatar, May 19, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia Battsetseg Batmunkh received Honorary Consuls of Mongolia in Tokushima, Toyama, and Sapporo, Japan, Mr. Shiro Kawauchi, Ms. Kayako Fujishige, and Kazuaki Takeuchi on May 16, 2025.
At the meeting, Foreign Minister Battsetseg emphasized that the “people-centered” relations and cooperation between Mongolia and Japan have been expanding at a high level under the “Special Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity,” with growing people-to-people exchanges. The Foreign Minister highlighted the importance of further strengthening the exchanges, which are the cornerstone of the two countries’ friendly relations, and requested that the Honorary Consuls maintain close ties with Mongolian citizens residing in their respective consular districts, safeguard their interests, and provide necessary support and assistance.
The two sides also discussed cooperation on practical initiatives aligned with the Regional Development Policy of Mongolia, leveraging Japan’s experience in developing and marketing regional brand products and implementing joint pilot projects and programs tailored to regional features.
The Honorary Consuls reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation between Mongolia and Japan, particularly in economy, investment, tourism, culture, and education. Additionally, the Honorary Consuls expressed intent to actively support the establishment of the “Global Village for Children,” an international children's camp in Mongolia that aims at uniting the voices of children and youth for peace, well-being, and a brighter future. As part of the “Billions of Trees” National Movement of Mongolia, over one million trees will be planted at the camp with the participation of children and youth. Additionally, to promote the physical development of children, the Honorary Consuls plan to introduce the sport of Tee-ball across Mongolia and organize competitions and physical education activities involving children from 21 aimags.
During the meeting, the two sides also agreed to establish a Unified Association of Honorary Consuls of Mongolia in Japan. Mongolia currently has seven Honorary Consuls appointed in Niigata, Fukuoka, Nagoya, Hokkaido, Tokushima, Toyama, and Hiroshima.
