Ulaanbaatar, November 15, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Journalists from ergelt.mn, a leading investigative journalism platform under the Oyunlag Ergelt Media Group, have published The Last Nomads in Mongolian and English, making Mongolian cultural narratives accessible to global audiences.
The editorial team behind ergelt.mn is renowned for its commitment to socially impactful reporting, ergelt.mn has earned two of Mongolia’s most prestigious journalism honors: the Baldorj Journalism Award and the Steel Pen Award, the latter bestowed by the Confederation of Mongolian Journalists in recognition of integrity and excellence in the field.
The Austrian launch of The Last Nomads was attended by Tsengeg Mijiddorj, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia to Austria, Birol Kilic, Honorary Member of the Foreign Press Association in Vienna Gerlee Tserendorj, Cultural Envoy of Mongolia, and Director of the German-based cultural agency Mongolian, and Khurelbaatar Enkhbaatar, Editor-in-Chief of ergelt.mn.
At the opening ceremony, Ambassador Tsengeg Mijiddorj expressed appreciation to the creators of the portrait book, stating: “We are grateful to the team bringing this meaningdul project to Austria. We fully support the initiative to publish the book in German for Austrian readers. Although ergelt.mn is best known for its work in investigative journalism, we commend the team for extending their mission beyond reporting - traveling across Europe to fulfill a broader public enlightenment role, and to share Mongolian culture with the world.”
Birol Kilic noted, “While many Mongolian authors have shared their books with us over the years, this marks the first time journalists have presented their work in such a distinctive and immpactful format. It is a meaningful and beautiful contribution. Through The Last Nomads, English-speaking audiences gain a window into Mongolian culture and the daily lives of nomadic communities.”
The Last Nomads offers a vivid and multifaceted portrait of Mongolian life, weaving together the enduring spirit of nomadic traditions with the evolving dynamics of modern civilization. The book features compelling stories of friendship, rsilience, and environmental stewardship, spotlighting a diverse cast of individuals: four elderly men who have mined salt in a remote region for over four decades; a man with keen eyesight with a two-kilometer range; a woman who tracks people and animals while fiercely defending her homeland; a renowned mineral deposit discoverer; a singular artist; and a village school student who dreams of becoming a global genius.
Originally published by ergelt.mn, the book has now been released in English, expanding its reach to European audiences. Prior to the Austrian debut, The Last Nomads was introduced at the Mongolian and Central Asian Studies Hall of Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest, Hungary.
