USAID supports to enhance rangeland management and pasture rotation
Environment
Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. In Mongolia, USAID Office of
U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance is working with partner
districts in Uvs, Khovd, Sukhbaatar, and Khentii to reduce the vulnerability of
herder households through strengthening disaster preparedness and improved
rangeland management.
In partnership with Mercy Corps
Mongolia, USAID distributed needed tools and equipment, as well as
learning materials to enhance rangeland management and pasture rotation. With
the support, districts will be able to determine the carrying capacity of
pastures, create pasture management maps, monitor movements, and optimize the
carrying capacity of pastures in a timely and sustainable manner. District
governments will be responsible for developing a system for registration which
will be used by district-level representatives of three different departments-
agriculture, meteorology, and environment- as well as the district governments
themselves.
