Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Wastewater treatment plants with a capacity of 3,000 cubic meter each will be constructed in the centers of Uvurkhangai, Umnugobi, Dornogobi and Arkhangai aimags. Today, June 30, the Ministry of Construction and Urban Development, Ministry of Finance of Mongolia and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) established the agreement.
The sewage treatment plants of the aimag centers were built between 1970 and 1996 and due to urbanization and centralization, treatment facilities have been overloaded and are often likely to have breakdowns. A total of USD 21.7 million will be required to implement the project and the Government of Mongolia will cover USD 1.74 million, while the Bill Gates Foundation will grant USD1 million. The remaining USD19.43 million will be financed by ADB with 25-year soft loan.
China's "Yzeni International" Company will work as a consultant to develop tender documents for project management and construction works, and Mongolia's "MonHydro Construction" Ccompany of Mongolia was selected as a sub-contractor. The project is planned to start from the third quarter of this year and complete by the end of next year.
According to agreements with the IMF, ADB will make a financing of USD 900 million to Mongolia. The first loan agreement of USD250 million was established on May 31 and today, we are signing the second agreement, underlined Finance Minister Mr. B. Choijilsuren. "The first signs of economic recovery in Mongolia have started to be observed. Economic growth was estimated at 0.2 percent this year, however, it already reaches over 4.2 percent now. The growth is expected to reach to 6 per cent in 2018"
“- Mongolia has developed consistent cooperation with ADB since 1991. Over the past years, ADB has invested USD312.4 million in construction sector in Mongolia. This time, we are going to build wastewater treatment facilities with the latest eco-friendly technologies with ADB financial assistance” said Minister of Construction and Urban Development G.Munkhbayar.
Further, new water treatment plants are planned to be built in centers of Bulgan, Dundgobi, Khentii, Khuvsgul and Uvs Aimags and relevant studies are underway.
Regarding the building of new Central Wastewater Treatment Plant in Ulaanbaatar, the Ministry of Finance and other relevant agencies are conducting studies and are scheduled to confirm financial issues and contractors by August.
