Regional consultation on respecting human rights in business held with eight aimags

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. A ‘Respecting Human Rights in Business’, regional consultation
with eight aimags of the Gobi and eastern regions was held on November 11-12 in
Sainshand, Dornogobi aimag.
Over 180 representatives from local businesses, local governments and local CSOs took part in the online and in-person hybrid regional consultation.
The consultation was attended by Mr. Livio Sarandrea, Lead Advisor and Team Leader of B+HR Asia, UNDP Regional Office in Bangkok, who spoke about effective use of regional consultations in developing National Action Plan to implement the UN Guiding Principle and shared international experience in this regard.
Members of the technical working group in charge of drafting the National B+HR Action Plan, represented by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Human Rights Commission, Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry, Government Agency for Family, Children and Youth Development, Business School of the National University of Mongolia, and civil society organizations exchanged information and views with the local governments, businesses and NGOs.
The participants highlighted negative impacts of the current transportation scheme in extractive industry as the most pressing issue for the region that needs to be addressed in the National Action Plan. Widely shared views of the participants included the importance of human rights education.
Business and Human Rights project was jointly implemented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia and UNDP with the support of the European Union.
