Cooperation on Using Methane from Coal Mine for Energy Discussed

Ulaanbaatar, August 21, 2024 /MONTSAME/. State Secretary of the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources of Mongolia Magnaisuren Sandag met with representatives of technology companies from the People’s Republic of China on August 20, 2024.
During the meeting, State Secretary Magnaisuren emphasized that the joint Government of Mongolia established the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, and the Government focuses on industrialization and, aims at developing environmentally friendly responsible mining based on innovation and the latest advanced technologies.
Representatives from Chinese companies, operating in mining, transport, logistics, energy, and smart transportation, including “Shanghai Intelligent Connected Vehicle”, “Liyu Group”, and “CRRC Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive” expressed their interest in collaborating on the utilization of new energy sources in the Mongolian mining sector.
Senior economist Liu Jiacheng presented the companies’ operations, particularly, new energy technologies, equipment, machinery, and technological solutions. Mr. Liu Jiacheng highlighted that 50 percent of electricity users in the Qinghai Province of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of China rely on new energy sources.
Representatives from "Liyu Group" expressed interest in cooperating with Mongolia to generate electricity from methane gas from coal mines.
State Secretary Magnaisuren thanked the representatives for their interest in cooperation and affirmed the Ministry’s readiness to support technical meetings between experts for the exchange of views. The State Secretary invited the delegation to attend the “Mining Week-2024” and “MinePro” events to be held on October 2-5, 2024, in Ulaanbaatar. The events will provide opportunities to explore the current state, projects, and programs to be implemented in the industrial and mineral resources sectors of Mongolia and cooperation priorities.
