October 19, 31 to be nationwide days off
SocietyUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The elections of local citizens’ representatives khurals ( local councils) will take place on October 19, making it a nationwide day off. This year’s October 31 coincides with the auspicious first day of the winter, according to the lunar Mongolian-Tibetan Calendar. The first day of each winter is celebrated as “Mongolian Pride Day”, which marks the birthday of Chinggis Khaan.
Chinggis Khaan has been assumed by historians to be born on the first day of winter of 1162, the Year of the Water Horse of the Third Sixty Years of Lunar Calendar.
Mongolia began to celebrate this day in 2012.
