Mongolian Judokas Depart for Tbilisi to Compete in the Fourth Judo Grand Slam of 2025

Ulaanbaatar, March 18, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The fourth Grand Slam tournament of the year, organized by the International Judo Federation (IJF), will take place in Tbilisi, Georgia, on March 21-23, 2025.
A total of over 400 judokas from 53 countries have registered to compete in this tournament. Among the Grand Slam events held in 2025, Tbilisi has the highest number of participants so far. By comparison, the Paris Grand Slam had 50 countries, the Baku Grand Slam had 36, and the Tashkent Grand Slam featured competitors from 23.
The Mongolian Judo team, led by Head Coach Erdenebaatar Uuganbayar and Coaches Nyamlkhagva Purevdorj, Boldbaatar Chimed-Yondon, and Boldbaatar Ganbat, departed for Tbilisi with 11 male and 9 female athletes. In the men’s division, K. Yolk and E. Ariunbold will compete in the 60 kg category, Yo. Baskhuu and U. Byambasuren in the 66 kg category, O. Uranbayar and L. Ankhzaya in the 73 kg category, O. Shinebayar in the 81 kg category, Ts. Gan-Erdene and B. Munkhbayar in the 90 kg, B. Khuderchuluun in the -100 kg category, and B. Gonchigsuren in the +100 kg category. In the women’s division, G. Narantsetseg and J. Anudari will compete in the 48 kg, M. Nandin-Erdene and Ts. Gal-Od in the 52 kg category, M. Ichinkhorloo and T. Ariunzaya in the 57 kg category, D. Yesui in the 70 kg category, A. Dulamsuren in the -78 kg category, and A. Adiyasuren in the +78 kg category.
Notably, in 2021, Hero of Labor of Mongolia and Honored Athlete of Mongolia M. Urantsetseg and Honored Athlete of Mongolia Ts. Tsogt-Ochir won gold medals, while International Masters G. Kherlen and G. Altanbagana secured bronze. Mongolia did not participate in 2022, but in 2023, International Master of Sports B. Erdenebayar claimed gold, while Honored Athlete of Mongolia Yo. Baskhuu and International Master of Sports B. Gonchigsuren won silver, and G. Narantsetseg earned bronze. However, in last year’s tournament, all 12 Mongolian judokas competed but did not secure any medals.
