Exploring Pathways for Economic Growth Through Digital Transition

Ulaanbaatar, September 8, 2025 /MONTSAME/. During the discussion on ‘Mining in the Digital Age: Opportunities for Transformation,’ participants explored solutions to accelerate economic growth by examining the Government’s role, the opportunities and benefits of introducing digital technologies in the mining sector, and avenues for cooperation with start-ups and investment funds on September 8, 2025.
The discussion, jointly organized by the Economic Development Centre, the Business Council of Mongolia, Oyu Tolgoi LLC, and Rio Tinto Group, aims at examining opportunities and risks of Mongolia’s digital transformation, fostering an innovation ecosystem, and strengthening traditional sectors through digital technology. More than 20 foreign and domestic guests participated, sharing views on Mongolia’s prospects to establish its position in the global digital economy and the need for a productivity shift in the national economy.
Minister of Industries and Mineral Resources of Mongolia, Damdinnyam Gongor, said, “Mongolia, due to its geographical, transportation, and logistical constraints, must undertake productivity transformation across all sectors of the economy. To achieve this, mining extraction should be coupled with intellectual mining, enabling Mongolia to access global markets through digital transition. Advancing digital transformation in the mining sector, effectively utilizing artificial intelligence, automation, and clean technologies, will be essential to strengthening long-term competitiveness.”
The discussion brought together representatives of international start-up and investment funds, including Moonshot Platform, Start-up Genome, T-Hub Hyderabad, Plug and Play, and Founders Factory.
