Art & Culture
Ulaanbaatar, March 7, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Museum Open Days, traditionally held in the first week of March, commenced on March 7, 2025, by the Directive of the Minister of Culture, Sports, Tourism, and Youth of Mongolia, due to the overlap with Mongolia’s Lunar New Year celebrations.
Established in 2018 by a Government Resolution, “Museum Open Days” aims at promoting national pride and patriotism among youth by showcasing Mongolia’s state traditions, history, cultural heritage, and art. According to the Government of Mongolia’s Resolution No. 96, dated March 6, 2024, this annual event will continue to be held during the first week of March.
During the event, state and local museums will offer free access to their permanent exhibitions. In line with the Government’s “Regional Development Policy,” special exhibitions, educational programs, lectures, and discussions will be organized, emphasizing the theme “Regional Development and Patriotism.”
This year, the event will actively engage students and youth. In collaboration with the Mongolian Student Union, parliamentary debate clubs from various universities will participate in public speaking contests and debates under the theme “Mongolian History, Cultural Heritage, and Museums.”
Additionally, the Chinggis Khaan National Museum of Mongolia will host an “Open Collection” event for students, showcasing gifts presented to Mongolia’s leaders throughout history. The National Museum of Mongolia will feature lectures on “Symbolism in Mongolian Chess” and “Laagan Losol, Chairman of the Presidium of the State Lower Khural.”
To mark International Women’s Day on March 8, the Zanabazar Museum of Fine Arts will present “Women in Fine Arts-5,” while the Mongolian National Art Gallery will host the “Art and Women” exhibition. The Bogd Khaan Palace Museum will organize an educational event on the “White Tara of the Eighth Day of the Month in the Lunar Calendar,” and the Mongolian Theatre Museum will screen the documentary “The Path Traveled” by writer-director Chimed Tudev, accompanied by educational activities for children.
A total of 35 state and local museums will participate, offering free admission and organizing cultural and educational programs for their local communities. In Ulaanbaatar, 10 museums will host nine special and thematic exhibitions, seven public lectures, and 18 educational programs, amounting to around 50 events in total.
“Museum Open Days” will run until March 13, 2025.
