Mongolia and France to Enhance Cooperation in the Environmental Sector

Ulaanbaatar, April 14, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Mongolia Odontuya Saldan met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic to Mongolia Corinne Pereira Da Silva on April 11, 2025.
At the meeting, Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Mongolia Odontuya Saldan underscored that 2025 marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and the French Republic, and expressed gratitude to the French side for sending an expert to support the “Billions of Trees” National Movement of Mongolia. The Minister conveyed interest in increasing the number of joint environmental projects, particularly in the fields of green transition, climate change, and water resource management. Additionally, Minister Odontuya emphasized Mongolia’s preparations to host the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (COP17) in 2026, reaffirming Mongolia's commitment to cooperation with France.
The two sides recognized COP17 as a guiding compass and an opportunity to further intensify bilateral cooperation in the environmental sector.
Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Mongolia Odontuya Saldan also noted her plans to participate in the upcoming “ChangeNOW” Forum to be held in Paris in April 2025. In response, Ambassador Corinne Pereira Da Silva extended an invitation for the Minister to attend the 2025 United Nations Ocean Conference, scheduled to take place in Nice, France, in June 2025.
