Ulaanbaatar, March 18, 2025 /MONTSAME. The "Australia Week" kicked off on March 17, 2025, with a discussion titled “Women’s Leadership Program.” This year’s Australia Week is being held under the theme of “Sustainability and Green Development” to promote and expand cooperation between Mongolia and Australia. In addition to introducing activities in various sectors, there will be cultural performances and trade fairs during Australia Week. Numerous events are planned in the education sector, as Australia invests greatly in education.
During the discussion on the “Women’s Leadership Program,” Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Mongolia Odontuya Saldan noted, “In 2024, the Australian Government implemented a project with funding of AUD 2.5 million to support women’s leadership and strengthen the capacity of Mongolian women to cope with climate change. Women and children are being more affected by natural disasters caused by climate change, such as dzud and floods. Women will be given special attention in this area. Recent progress in ensuring gender equality is the result of work done in the political, economic, and social spheres. Mongolia considers it important to reflect gender equality in environmental and land management policies and ensure the role of women. During the World Women’s Forum held in August 2024, we took the initiative to establish a “Group of Women Environmental Leaders” and strive to make women’s leadership a reality.
Also, next year, Mongolia will host the 17th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification. The Government of Mongolia, in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank, plans to organize an international conference on “Gender Equality and Climate Change” on May 22-23, 2025, to exchange international experiences on overcoming climate change."
At the event, Country Program Manager of the Australia Awards Enkhtuvshin Lunden said, “This discussion aims at emphasizing the role of women in environmental and climate change, adaptation, empowering women, and ensuring their voices are heard at the decision-making level."
